Turning Tide the Show

The aim of this Blackwater Valley Music School show is to promote Irish Dance and Music during these difficult times for young musicians and dancers.  The show highlights the talent of the youth in Ireland and gives them the opportunity to display their heritage and culture to the Irish tourist industry.

CAST includes

Ryan Murphy
Ryan’s main instrument is the uilleann pipes, but he also plays flute, whistles, and saxophone. He has won an impressive total of seven All-Ireland and two Oireachtas titles on the pipes.
Currently he is studying for a BA in Irish music and Dance in UL. Ryan also arranged the music for this production.

Cillian Doheny
Cillian started playing at the age of 11, he has won numerous all Ireland titles in instruments such as the banjo, guitar and mandolin. Cillian has toured Europe and America over the last few years.

Emma O’Flynn
Began Irish dancing with the ‘Kiely Walsh Academy’ at the age of 4, holds two world championship titles, also won the senior ladies Ceili dancin in 2007 and the senior mixed Céili dancing in 2011. As a solo dancer she is in the top 3 at Munster level, top 10 at the All Ireland and top 25 at World level.

Aoife McCarthy
Aoife is a native of Cork City and has been dancing since the age of three. She has competed in Munster, All Ireland and World Championships.

Aoíbheann Murphy
Aoibheann went on her first international tour at the age of fifteen when she toured with the Irish Harp Orchestra in 2007, as one of the principle soloists both on concertina and fiddle. She claimed the under 18 All-Ireland title in 2008 and has gone on, to pick up numerous Oireachtas titles and Foras na Gaeilge’s acclaimed ‘Scléip’ competition along the way.

Eamonn Nugent
Began playing Bodhran at the age of 13 after a trip to All-Ireland Fleadh in Letterkenny. Recognised in every age group and level from Scottish to the All Ireland Fleadh.

Roisin McArdle
Roisin began learning music at the age of 4. She has played around the world, most notably at the Tønder festival in Denmark and Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, as well as playing across Europe and on two cruises!

Louise Mc Kinney
Graduated from the University Of Ulster with a Bachelor of Music with honours. She is currently studying a Masters in Music at the University of Ulster and hopes to graduate this winter. She won numerous All Ireland Medals on Tin Whistle, Singing and Flute.

John Lonergan
John started dancing at the age of 6. He is a four time World Irish Dancing Champion.

Danielle McCarthy
Irish dancing since she was 4 years old participated in the Irish dancing show ‘Draoicht na feile Derige’, She participated in world championships in a team dance we came 3rd.

Leona Dowling
Studying BA in Irish Music and Dance, at the University of Limerick. Has competed in many renowned competitions such as The Leinster Irish Dance Championships and The All Ireland and International Irish Dance Championships.
